Brett Haddon

 

 

Brett Haddon graduated from The University of Sydney with a degree in Social Work in 1994. After graduating, he worked with children and their families for The Department of Community Services (FaCS) and The Department of Social Security (Centrelink), before joining St. Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, in 1996. Brett held a number of senior social work positions at St. Vincent’s Hospital, including Student Unit Co-ordinator, HIV Team Leader and Senior Social Worker in Community Health. Whilst working at St. Vincent’s, Brett worked in a variety of clinical settings, including HIV, palliative care, social work education, and community health, the latter position including the provision of generalist and domestic violence counselling. In 2008, Brett graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Masters in Social Work Counselling.

Brett has extensive clinical experience in assisting clients to manage significant periods of change, grief and loss. He has also worked with individuals and couples experiencing a range of psychosocial/psychological issues such as depression, anxiety, substance misuse, and relationship difficulties. Brett takes great pride in working from an evidence and strengths base, and collaboratively and cooperatively with clients to achieve the best possible outcomes. He is a skilled and empathic counsellor and utilises a number of therapeutic modalities, such as Narrative Therapy, Solution Focussed Brief Therapy, Systems and Family Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. 

In October 2014, Brett joined The Family Court and Federal Circuit Court of Australia as a Family Consultant at the Sydney Registry. Whilst primarily a forensic position, Brett was also able to utilise his therapeutic skills and expertise and understanding of complex family dynamics and child development to sometimes assist families reach agreement in parenting disputes. Brett was appointed Senior Family Consultant at the Sydney Registry in December 2017. 

Wanting to re-engage with clinical and therapeutic work, Brett joins the Relationspace to work with parents and children experiencing separation and divorce. Brett consults on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and provides clinical/therapeutic input and support to families experiencing a range of stressors, such as adapting to and managing change.
