Dr. Joel Singer

 

 

Dr Joel Singer is a Consultant Psychiatrist with unconditional specialist registration in Australia. He completed his medical degree at the University of New South Wales with Distinction. During this time, he completed a medical clerkship at Harvard University. He subsequently worked in various capacities across several tertiary hospitals in Sydney, including St Vincent’s and Prince of Wales Hospitals. Dr Singer has specialised experience working with people living with neurodevelopmental disorders, having trained at the Neuropsychiatric Institute, Sydney, and the Kogarah Developmental Assessment Service. Dr Singer has also worked providing care for young 10 people and adults in forensic settings in New South Wales. He was the recipient of a HETI Award in Psychiatry and Mental Health where he provided medicolegal assessments of young people and their families at the Children’s Court Clinic. In addition to specialist psychiatric qualification from the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrist (RANZCP), Dr Singer has completed additional subspecialist training in New South Wales with an Advanced Training Certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is a member of the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry of the RANZCP. He previously was the trainee representative on the RANZCP Committee for Child and Adolescent Forensic Psychiatry. Dr Singer previously worked as a Visiting Medical Officer at St Vincent’s Private Hospital. He 20 currently works in private practice providing psychiatric assessment and treatment for children, adolescents, and adults. He is a trained assessor for the NSW Workcover Scheme and provides expert psychiatric evidence for civil medico-legal matters. Dr Singer previously held an academic appointment as a conjoint lecturer with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales where he was involved in undergraduate medical teaching and examination. He has been the co-author of several journal articles and a textbook chapter.
