Dr. Michael Emmett Maher

 

 

Emmett (preferred name) has worked in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) since 1999. In joining the Relationspace, Emmett has pursued an interest in the family law interface with psychology, which relates directly to much of the clinical work he undertook in CAMHS.

Having initially trained as a clinical psychologist in the UK, Emmett went on to undertake specialist child psychotherapy training at the Tavistock Centre in London before moving to Sydney. He also prepared psychology reports for court matters in the UK.

Since 2013, Emmett has worked in public mental health in the eastern suburbs area of Sydney and has, as part of a treatment service for complex mental health issues, worked extensively with children and adolescents who have experienced parental separation and family breakdown.

In working inclusively, Emmett has an interest in supporting children and parents from diverse families. Additionally, Emmett has specialist interest in eating disorders, self-harm, and anxiety. Psychological treatments offers include individual psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, interpersonal & family therapy.
