Dr. Yumna Dhansay

 

 

Dr. Yumna Dhansay is a consultant psychiatrist with unconditional specialist registration in Australia. She completed her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Cape Town in 1995 and completed her postgraduate training in psychiatry in 2004, becoming a Fellow of the South African College of Psychiatrists. Dr Dhansay went on to do additional subspecialist training and received her Certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2007. She was awarded a Master of Philosophy degree in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with distinction for her research, from the University of Cape Town in 2012. Dr Dhansay was also awarded specialist psychiatric qualifications from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) in 2013 and completed additional subspecialist training in New South Wales with Advanced Training Certificates in both Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry. Dr Dhansay was awarded her Masters of Forensic Mental Health with Excellence from the University of New South Wales in 2018. In 2019 she was appointed a member of the RANZCP NSW Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Subcommittee and as a member of the RANZCP Section of Child and Adolescent Forensic Psychiatry Subcommittee.

Dr Dhansay has worked as a consultant psychiatrist in New South Wales, Western Australia, South Africa and the United Kingdom. She currently holds appointments as a Staff Specialist Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the South East Sydney Local Health District where she assesses and treats children, adolescents and their families in both community and inpatient settings and as a Visiting Psychiatrist for the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network where she provides treatment to young people in custody at one of the juvenile justice centres in the greater Sydney area.

Dr Dhansay is an Authorised Clinician with the NSW Children’s Court Clinic, providing parenting capacity and psychiatric assessments in child protection matters. She also has a private medicolegal practice at which she provides psychiatric assessments and single expert reports for Family Court matters as well as psychiatric reports for children and adolescents with criminal matters. She has a private practice which focusses on women’s mental health (mental health issues relating to infertility, pregnancy and menopause).

Dr Dhansay holds an academic appointment as a conjoint lecturer with the Faculty of Medicine, School of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales where she is actively involved in undergraduate medical teaching and examination. She regularly supervises doctors completing specialist psychiatry training with the RANZCP and is an examiner for the RANZCP. She is a reviewer for the peer reviewed medical journal, Australasian Psychiatry.
